EBN: BBAG over the Moon

For a long time during a day in which the lull in the middle seemed to last a very long time it seemed a €460,000 colt, Lot 49, from the first crop by Sea The Moon from Gestüt Görlsdorf, the stallion’s breeder, would top the sale. Tom Goff of Blandford Bloodstock, acting for Godolphin, outlasted several competitors, including Australian Justin Bahen, for the colt out of the winner Favorite (Montjeu), the dam of three winners, including Fun Mac (Shirocco), who was second in the Listed March Stakes and third in the Gr.1 Prix du Cadran. The second dam, US Stakes winner Fluid Dancer (Irish River), is also grandam of Floriot (Monsun), the Champion Older Mare in Germany after winning the Gr.1 Premio Lydia Tesio.

Goff explained: “My partner in Blandford, Richard Brown, was instrumental in bringing Sea The Moon to Lanwades Stud and we are big believers in the horse, so when I came across this lovely colt, I was very keen to buy him.”

Goff was not finished acting for Godolphin, securing Lot 191, a colt by Sea The Stars from Gestüt Brümmerhof, for €200,000. He is the first foal out of the dual winner Intimhir (Muhtathir), a halfsister to Sortilege (Tiger Hill), victrix of the Gr.1 Premio Lydia Tesio, and the French Listed-placed Sosia (Shamardal), from the family that has served Gestüt Karlshof so well, that of the Champions and sires Samum and Schiaparelli, as well as the Champion Salve Regina, winner of the Gr.1 Preis der Diana and dam of American Gr.2 winner Salve Germania, all three by Monsun, and the dam of Champion and sire Sea The Moon, who is, of course, by Sea The Stars. Goff commented: “He was a lovely horse in the making by a sire we are very keen on as well. He is a relatively late foal who will keep on developing and the links with the excellent pedigree are there to see.”

Gestüt Görlsdorf and Sea The Moon were not finished either, as a filly by him, Lot 199, made €180,000 to Peter and Ross Doyle, with Peter confirming that she would go to his regular client here, leading Norwegian trainer Wido Neuroth. Nouvelle Lune is the second foal out of Listed winner Nouvelle Neige (Big Shuffle) and her dam Nouvelle Fortune (Alzao) also won at that level, but was also third in the Gr.1 Preis der Diana.
